Abia Assembly Swears in Aaron Uzodike of PDP after 9 Months
Hon. Aaron Uzodike

The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emereuwa, officially swore in Aaron Uzodike as the representative for the Aba North constituency on Tuesday. This significant development marks the culmination of a protracted legal and political battle that began with the 2023 elections.

Uzodike’s swearing-in follows a landmark decision by the Court of Appeal in Lagos, which overturned an earlier ruling that favored Destiny Akara Nwagwu of the Labour Party. Despite receiving a Certified True Copy of the court’s judgment and a Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Uzodike’s swearing-in was delayed due to an injunction reportedly issued by a lower court.

The delay had ignited protests from Labour Party supporters in Abia, who contested the Appeal Court’s ruling. Nevertheless, Uzodike’s formal induction into office has triggered celebrations among the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters across Aba North and the wider Abia State.

Earlier this year, Uzodike addressed speculation about possible pressure to join the Labour Party in exchange for his legislative seat, affirming his commitment to the PDP.
