Mascot Uzor Kalu Declares for Abia 2027 Governorship, Promises Inclusive and Transparent Leadership
Mascot Uzor Kalu declares for the 2027 Abia governorship under APC, promising transparent, inclusive, and grassroots-driven leadership focused on economic development, job creation, and accountability.
Former Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor and Younger Brother to Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 Abia State Governorship Election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kalu made the declaration on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Umuahia, before a crowd of supporters, party faithful, and community leaders. In his address, he promised to champion a government built on inclusivity, transparency, and grassroots empowerment, pledging to create an Abia where “every citizen has a fair chance to thrive.”
A Call for Renewed Leadership
Speaking with conviction, Mascot Uzor Kalu said Abia State deserves a new chapter — one marked by unity, economic growth, and genuine service to the people. He reminded his audience that despite irregularities in the 2023 governorship election, he chose peace and progress over personal ambition by congratulating the winner and refusing to challenge the results in court.
“Though there were irregularities, I congratulated the winner because the people demanded change. I chose not to go to court, allowing the administration space to govern. But today, Abia deserves more progress, more inclusivity, and more truth in governance,” Kalu stated.
He acknowledged some achievements by the current administration but noted that the delivery has not matched campaign promises, insisting that Abia’s growth must reach beyond urban centers to the rural grassroots.
His Vision for Abia
Kalu unveiled his six-point agenda, rooted in fairness, accountability, and economic transformation. His major pledges include:
-
Full implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots level.
-
Transparency in governance, including opening Abia’s financial systems to public scrutiny.
-
Welfare for civil servants and pensioners, ensuring timely payments and respect for their service.
-
Job creation and entrepreneurship programs, especially targeting Abia’s youth.
-
Local government autonomy, with full publication and release of LG allocations.
-
Continuation of capital projects while introducing human capacity development initiatives across sectors.
He described the state’s unemployment rate—over 62%—as “unacceptable and unsustainable,” emphasizing that Abia’s young population needs opportunities, not excuses.
“Our journey is not politics as usual. It is a call to restore empathy to leadership and give every Abian a reason to believe again,” he said.
Beyond Politics: A Movement of Faith and Service
Mascot Uzor Kalu described his 2027 ambition as more than a political mission. According to him, it is a movement anchored on faith, resilience, and collective responsibility. He called on party loyalists, progressives from other political divides, and non-indigenes to join hands with him to rebuild Abia under the APC.
Quoting Saint Teresa of Avila, he said:
“Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you. God never changes. Whoever has God lacks nothing.”
Campaign Slogan and Call to Action
The declaration ended with a powerful slogan that reflects his grassroots philosophy:
“Onye rụọ, orie! Arutu uzu, arutu afọ!!”
(Translation: He who works, eats! When the barn is full, so is the stomach!)
With prayers for the success of the APC, Abia State, and Nigeria, Kalu’s speech officially kicked off what many political analysts predict will be one of the most defining contests on the road to Abia 2027.
