Community in Abia Demands Accountability from their Legislators

Umuahia, Abia State – Nkwoachara Ward Development Union, located in Umuawa Alaocha Ohuhu within Umuahia North Local Government Area, has formally requested detailed information regarding funds allocated to their federal and senatorial representatives. This request, made through their legal counsel, Chijioke Udeogu and Co Solicitors, targets both the House of Representatives member, Obi Aguocha, and the Senator for Abia Central, Austin Akobundu.

In a petition submitted to the Clerk of the National Assembly, the community is seeking comprehensive details on the allocation of funds to Obi Aguocha from June 2023 to August 2024. They are particularly concerned about the representation they have received from Aguocha, who they believe has not adequately served their interests.

Hon. Obi Aguocha

The community's request also extends to an account of constituency projects undertaken in Abia Central Senatorial District, which they argue directly impact them. They are demanding transparency regarding the execution and approval of these projects and the specific funds allocated for each.

Additionally, Nkwoachara Ward is seeking information on all palliatives and social welfare packages approved and disbursed by the National Assembly for the Abia Central Senatorial District during the same period.

In response to the petition, Nnaemeka Ekechukwu, Chairman of the Labour Party in Nkwoachara Ward, denied any knowledge of the allegations against Obi Aguocha, asserting that his party has no record of such correspondence.

Efforts to reach the media consultant for Senator Austin Akobundu for comments were unsuccessful.
