The Abia State Government has debunked a viral social media report claiming that the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Monday, the government described the report as false, mischievous, and the handiwork of political propagandists who are unsettled by the Governor’s rising profile and consistent performance in governance.
According to the release, the story is a fabrication designed to mislead the public and distract Abians from the ongoing transformation taking place across the state.
The statement reaffirmed that Governor Alex Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party, the same platform that produced his resounding victory at the 2023 governorship election. His focus, it stated, is firmly on rebuilding Abia, strengthening accountability, and ensuring that citizens enjoy the full dividends of democracy.
The government recalled that during the October edition of the interactive program “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” the Governor made it clear that his interest lies not in political calculations or defections, but in genuine service to the people. He emphasized that leadership, to him, is about measurable impact, not political convenience.
The release further highlighted that the Otti administration has continued to record progress across key sectors including infrastructure renewal, economic development, youth empowerment, and restoration of public trust in government. These principles, it added, align completely with the values of the Labour Party.
The government therefore urged the public to disregard the fake report and treat it as a deliberate attempt to divert attention from the visible achievements of the current administration.
