16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM: OTTI'S AIDE ADVOCATES FOR CONCERTED EFFORTS TO ERADICATE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS
The Special Adviser to the Governor of Abia state on Women Mobilization, Hon. Mrs. Chinwe Kanu Ubah has called for collective efforts to end violence against women. In a recent article for the 2024 '16 days of activism' titled 'Time to act now' Mrs. Chinwe Kanu Ubah who doubles as the Gender Coordinator of Knowledge Mills International Foundation, raised concerns over gender-based violence, citing the increasing death rate of women, she stated, "this year's theme is aimed to draw attention to the alarming increase in violence against women and call from decision makers." Mrs. Chinwe called on governments, organizations, and people everywhere to lend a voice against violence, emphasizing the need to prevent violence by circulating the message to all while reiterating that the 16 Days of Activism is an opportunity to revitalize commitments and build a future free of violence against women and girls. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Mobilization stressed that the public must take action to prevent violence against women, emphasizing that inaction is unacceptable. She advocated for laws and policies that hold perpetrators accountable and urged the populace to adopt the National Action Plan to end violence against women and girls, calling on the government to invest in women's rights organizations,and on companies and institutions to implement zero-tolerance policies, she stated "Now is the time to raise awareness and organize events. Individuals can use their creativity to promote a message of zero tolerance to violence against women and girls". Mrs. Chinwe concluded by emphasizing the importance of supporting and donating to local women's organizations and promoting awareness using #NO EXCUSE campaign materials in schools, communities, churches, etc.
