Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi Mourn Evangelist Uma Ukpai, Describe Him as a Pillar of Faith and Inspiration
Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have mourned the passing of Evangelist (Dr.) Uma Ukpai, praising his global impact as a Christian leader, educator, and spiritual father whose legacy continues to inspire faith across Nigeria and beyond.
Tributes continue to pour in for the late Evangelist (Dr.) Uma Ukpai, one of Nigeria’s most respected Christian leaders, who passed away over the weekend. Two of Nigeria’s prominent political leaders, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, have both expressed deep sorrow over his passing, describing him as a towering figure in faith whose life touched countless souls across the world.
In his message, Atiku Abubakar extended his condolences to the family of the late evangelist, the government and people of Abia State, and the global Christian community. He described Evangelist Ukpai as “a globally acknowledged preacher of the Christian faith through his missionary work spanning about six decades.”
Atiku highlighted Evangelist Ukpai’s lifelong devotion to spreading the gospel and his remarkable contributions to education, noting the establishment of the Uma Ukpai Polytechnic as a legacy that would endure for generations.
“His passion for and commitment to education, which culminated in the establishment of the Uma Ukpai Polytechnic, is a legacy that will, in addition to his impactful spiritual work, stand the test of time. May God accept his soul and comfort his family,” Atiku stated.
Similarly, Peter Obi paid tribute to the late evangelist, describing him as a great man of God who devoted his entire life to service, healing, and soul-lifting.
“I have just received with deep sadness the news of the passing on to glory of one of Nigeria’s most revered clerics, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, Founder and President of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association,” Obi said.
The Labour Party presidential candidate extended his condolences to the evangelist’s family, friends, and congregation, praying for God’s comfort in their time of grief.
“Dr. Uma Ukpai devoted his life to preaching the Gospel, healing, and uplifting souls across Nigeria and beyond. Through the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, he organised large-scale crusades, healing services, and leadership conferences that brought hope and transformation to countless lives. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” Obi added.
Evangelist (Dr.) Uma Ukpai, a proud son of Abia State, was a revered preacher known for his dynamic evangelism, prophetic teachings, and unwavering faith. His ministry, which spanned over six decades, made him a spiritual father to many, not just in Nigeria but across the world.
As the Christian community and the people of Abia mourn his passing, many describe his life as one of purpose, service, and dedication to God’s work, a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
