Gov. Otti Expresses Gratitude To WAEC For Choosing Abia, Assures Of Successful Hosting
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has expressed gratitude to WAEC for selecting Abia to host the 63rd Nigeria National Committee Meeting, assuring full readiness and reaffirming his administration’s strong commitment to education reform and excellence.
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, Has Expressed Deep Appreciation To The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) For Choosing Abia State To Host The 63rd Nigeria National Committee Meeting Of The Council.
Governor Otti Gave The Assurance On Tuesday While Receiving In Audience A Delegation From WAEC, Led By The Branch Controller, Mrs. Mary Chima, At The Government House, Umuahia.
The Governor Described The Choice Of Abia As A Great Privilege And Promised That The State Government Would Provide All Necessary Support To Ensure A Successful Hosting.
“We Thank WAEC For The Choice Of Abia. We Already Have A Receipt Of Your Letter And Have Started Making Arrangements. We Can Assure You That We Are Prepared To Host. We Consider It A Great Privilege To Be Hosting This Year’s Event,” Governor Otti Said.
“I Assure You That We Will Put Everything In Place To Receive You And To Ensure That You Have A Memorable Event Here In Abia,” He Added.
Governor Otti Stated That The Selection Of Abia As Host Was A Reflection Of His Administration’s Commitment To Revamping The Education Sector. He Recalled That Upon Assumption Of Office In 2023, His Government Declared A State Of Emergency On Education, Health, Security, Infrastructure, And Environmental Sanitation.
According To Him, The Education Sector Had Suffered Years Of Neglect, Both In Terms Of Infrastructure And Teaching Standards, But His Administration Has Been Working Tirelessly To Address Those Challenges.
“Education Was In A Very Terrible State, Not Just In Terms Of Infrastructure That Had Completely Decayed In Virtually All The Schools, But Also In Terms Of The Quality Of Teaching, The Number Of Teachers, And The Curricula,” He Explained.
He Added That Several Schools Across The State Are Currently Undergoing Renovation And That His Administration Is Prioritizing The Training And Recruitment Of Competent Teachers.
Governor Otti Directed The Commissioner For Basic And Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, To Reopen The Recruitment Portal For Another 5,000 Teachers To Strengthen The Workforce And Improve Learning Outcomes.
Earlier In Her Remarks, The WAEC Branch Controller, Mrs. Mary Chima, Said The Council Chose Abia State To Host The 2025 WAEC Nigeria National Council Meeting, Scheduled To Hold From November 17th To 21st In Umuahia.
She Described The Choice Of Abia As A Recognition Of The Governor’s Exceptional Commitment To Education And His Administration’s Productive Collaboration With WAEC.
“Your Excellency, The Choice Of Abia State Among The Five Eastern States Is A Great Recognition Of Your Administration’s Commitment To Educational Excellence, Discipline, And Reform,” Mrs. Chima Said.
She Explained That The WAEC Nigeria National Council Meeting Is The Highest Policy-Making Body Of The Council In The Country, Bringing Together State Commissioners Of Education, Heads Of WAEC Offices, And Senior Officials To Deliberate On Policies, Review Performance, And Set Examination Standards Nationwide.
Mrs. Chima Commended Governor Otti For His Leadership And For Maintaining Abia’s Consistent Record Of Excellence In WAEC Examinations.
“Under Your Leadership, Abia Has Continued To Rank Among The Top States In WAEC Performance Nationwide And Has Demonstrated Strict Compliance With Examination Ethics,” She Added.
The Meeting Was Attended By The Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, The Commissioner For Basic And Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, And Other Top Government Officials.
