The Abia State Government has formed an independent committee through the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA) to investigate the recent props failure at Ekeoha Market, Aba, assuring the public of transparency, safety, and strict compliance with construction standards.
The Abia State Government Has Set Up An Independent Investigation Committee To Probe The Reported Props Failure At A Section Of The Ongoing Construction Site In Ekeoha Market, Aba, On Tuesday, October 21st, 2025.
The Committee, Constituted Through The Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA), Is Comprised Of Professionals From The Nigeria Society Of Engineers, The Nigerian Institute Of Builders, And The Nigerian Institute Of Architects.
According To The Government, The Committee’s Mandate Is To Conduct A Thorough Assessment Of The Cause And Extent Of The Incident And Submit A Comprehensive, Unbiased Report Within Two Weeks.
Following The Incident, The Greater Aba Development Authority Took Immediate Action By Sealing Off The Construction Site To Prevent Further Work Until The Investigation Is Completed.
Speaking After The Committee’s Preliminary Visit To The Site, The Chairman, Engr. Felix Nnabugwu FNSE, Confirmed That There Was No Structural Collapse And No Fatalities Recorded. He Assured That The Committee Will Provide A Detailed Report On The Findings Within The Given Period.
“The Committee’s Initial Assessment Shows That What Happened Was A Temporary Props Failure, Not A Structural Collapse. There Were No Deaths Or Serious Injuries. Our Team Is Conducting A Detailed Evaluation To Determine The Exact Cause And To Prevent Future Occurrences,” Engr. Nnabugwu Stated.
The Abia State Government Urged The Public To Disregard False Reports Circulating On Social Media And Other Platforms About The Incident. It Reaffirmed Its Commitment To Transparency And Public Safety, Assuring That The Committee’s Final Report Will Be Made Public Upon Completion.
In A Statement Issued By The Greater Aba Development Authority, The Government Stressed That Construction Safety Remains A Top Priority And That All Ongoing Projects Across The State Will Continue To Be Monitored To Ensure Compliance With Approved Standards.
“The Government’s Priority Is The Safety Of Lives And Property. Every Construction Project In The State Must Follow Established Engineering And Safety Guidelines. This Investigation Will Strengthen Accountability And Reinforce Confidence In Our Ongoing Urban Development Projects,” The Statement Read.
The Greater Aba Development Authority Is Expected To Work Closely With The Ministry Of Works And Other Relevant Agencies To Implement Any Recommendations That May Arise From The Committee’s Report.
