Wife Of The President Commissions Digital Learning Centre In Umuahia To Boost Digital Literacy Among Women And Youths
Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, commissions a state-of-the-art Digital Learning Centre in Umuahia to promote digital literacy and empower Abia women and youths through the Renewed Hope Initiative and NITDA collaboration.
The Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned a fully equipped Digital Learning Centre in Umuahia to enhance digital literacy, empower women and youths, and drive inclusive growth in Abia State.
The project, located within the Ministry of Women Affairs and Women Development Centre, Umuahia, was established by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and the Office of the Wife of the Governor of Abia State.
During her virtual address, Senator Tinubu revealed that ten similar centres were commissioned simultaneously across ten states of the federation, including Abia, Edo, Delta, Kano, Katsina, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ondo, Yobe, and Zamfara. She noted that the initiative, under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, aims to expand nationwide access to ICT skills and empower communities through technology.
The Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Abdullahi, also speaking virtually, described the initiative as a major step toward building digital capacity and promoting economic inclusion. He urged beneficiaries to make the most of the facility to improve their skills, create opportunities, and drive community growth.
Representing the Wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adaeze Emetu, lauded Senator Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to empowering women and youths. She called the project an impactful milestone that aligns with Abia’s developmental vision and the Renewed Hope Initiative’s empowerment goals.
Mrs. Otti expressed appreciation to NITDA for its consistent efforts in bridging Nigeria’s digital divide. She noted that the new centre will serve as a catalyst for empowering women and youths, promoting self-reliance, and positioning Abians to compete in the global digital economy.
She also highlighted the state’s ongoing digital initiatives under Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, including the TechRise Programme, which has trained hundreds of young people, with over 850 participants in its current cohort.
Mrs. Otti pledged that the Abia State Government would ensure full ownership, maintenance, and effective utilization of the new Digital Learning Centre, guaranteeing that it serves as a lasting tool for empowerment and innovation.
The event attracted women leaders, students, and senior government officials who commended the collaboration between the Federal Government, NITDA, and the Abia State Government in advancing digital education and inclusion.
