Aba Power Commended for Sustaining 45 Days of Continuous Electricity in Abia
Electricity consumers in Southeast Nigeria have commended Aba Power and Geometric Power Ltd for achieving 45 days of uninterrupted power supply in Aba and surrounding communities, citing strong collaboration with Heirs Energies and NNPCL.
Electricity consumers in the Southeast geopolitical zone have applauded Aba Power Electricity Ltd for achieving a remarkable milestone of 45 consecutive days of uninterrupted power supply to residents and businesses within the Aba Ring-fenced Area of Abia State.
Aba Power, the distribution company serving nine of Abia’s 17 local government areas, operates under the Geometric Power Group, which owns the 188-megawatt thermal power plant in the Osisioma Industrial Layout of Aba. The plant has become a beacon of reliable electricity supply in a country still grappling with frequent power outages.
In a statement released in Awka, Anambra State, the Electricity Consumers Association of Nigeria (ECAN), Southeast Zone, hailed the performance of Aba Power and its parent company, Geometric Power Ltd, for delivering stable electricity to homes and industries across the region.
“As Geometric Power Ltd marks yet another 45 days of uninterrupted electricity,” the group said, “we commend Aba Power for faithfully delivering the entire power generated by the plant to our people and industries.”
The statement, jointly signed by Engr. Joe Ubani, ECAN Southeast Chairman, and Comrade Chris Okpara, the Secretary, credited the sustained power supply to a steady and reliable natural gas supply to the Aba power plant.
According to ECAN’s investigation, the gas supply which is handled by Heirs Energies, in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has remained consistent in recent weeks. Heirs Energies operates the Oil Mining Lease (OML) 17 assets, which were previously managed by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) before being acquired following a prolonged legal dispute.
The group noted that Heirs Energies’ commitment has restored the operational capacity of the gas facilities in Owaza, Ukwa West LGA, from where gas is piped through a 27-kilometre, $50 million pipeline constructed by Geometric Power to the Aba plant.
“We are delighted that Heirs Energies, alongside NNPCL, is building capacity and showing what indigenous Nigerian firms can achieve when given the opportunity,” ECAN stated.
The association also referenced Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti’s, public remark two weeks ago, where he highlighted Aba’s steady electricity supply as proof that the state had “gone beyond” persistent power problems affecting other regions.
“Governor Otti’s statement is a reflection of what residents are experiencing daily,” ECAN added. “Businesses are running smoothly, artisans are working longer hours, and industrial growth is returning to Aba.”
ECAN further urged the Federal Government to replicate the Geometric Power model across Nigeria, stressing that consistent electricity supply remains critical for national economic growth.
“Our advice to the authorities is to study what the Geometric Power Group is doing and adopt similar strategies nationwide,” the statement read. “It’s heartening that the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, appears to be moving in this direction. Nigerians should support such efforts.”
With Aba Power’s consistent output and the reliable gas partnership with Heirs Energies, Abia is emerging as a model for sustainable and locally driven power solutions in Nigeria.
