Davido Honours Late Mother With New Female Hostel At Clifford University

Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has immortalized his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, with the inauguration of a new female hostel at Clifford University, Ihie, Abia State.

The facility, named Veronica Adeleke Hostel, was officially unveiled on Sunday during the university’s 6th Convocation Ceremony. The event drew widespread attention as Davido also delivered the commencement speech to the graduating class.

In his address, the multi-award-winning singer urged the graduates to lead with purpose and use their talents to create a positive impact. He emphasized that true greatness is not measured by fame or wealth, but by the lives one touches and transforms.

“When I looked into their faces, I saw the same fire that built me — that hunger to be seen, to make something out of nothing, to turn pain into power. Talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning,” Davido said.

He described the hostel dedication as a deeply personal moment, calling it a continuation of his mother’s lifelong commitment to education and compassion.

“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, was a teacher and giver who believed education and compassion could change lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose — turning love into legacy,” Davido shared on his official X account.

The event also featured popular nightlife entrepreneur, Cubana Chief Priest, who accompanied Davido and pledged to pay the tuition fees of 50 students of Clifford University.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chimezie Omeonu, commended Davido for his generosity and for using his influence to inspire young Africans to strive for excellence.

The ribbon-cutting of the Veronica Imade Adeleke Female Hostel marked the highlight of the day, attended by top university officials, dignitaries, and students who celebrated the singer’s gesture as a powerful symbol of legacy, education, and service.
