Abia State Announces Second Term School Resumption for 2024/2025 Academic Year

The Abia State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has officially declared that schools across the state will resume for the second term of the 2024/2025 academic session on Monday, January 13, 2025. This directive applies uniformly to all public and private primary, secondary, and technical schools.

The announcement, made through a press release signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Chinedu Ubochi, emphasized the need for strict adherence to the resumption date. According to the Commissioner, the move is designed to ensure smooth academic operations and uniformity in curriculum coverage.

The Ministry also unveiled the comprehensive academic calendar for the second term:

Resumption Date: Monday, January 13, 2025

Mid-Term Break: Thursday, February 27 to Sunday, March 2, 2025

Closing Date: Friday, April 4, 2025

Holiday Period: Saturday, April 5 to Sunday, April 27, 2025

Key public holidays during the term include:

Eid-el-Fitr: Monday, March 31 to Tuesday, April 1, 2025

Good Friday: Friday, April 18, 2025

The Ministry expressed concerns over reports of some private schools planning to resume earlier than the official date. Such actions, it noted, are in direct violation of government regulations. Elder Ubochi warned that defaulters would face consequences and urged all schools to comply to foster proper coordination in the education sector.

The Commissioner reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to fostering quality education, urging parents, teachers, and school administrators to work together in upholding the set schedule.

“We remain committed to being your worthwhile partner in breeding your precious sprouts,” Elder Ubochi stated.

The Ministry urged all education stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with the academic calendar for a successful and seamless term.
