Gov. Otti Assures Of Increased Speed In Driving Development In The State, Says The Best Is Yet To Come

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has reassured Abians of a renewed and faster pace in the delivery of development projects across the state as his administration enters its third year. The Governor made this statement on Sunday at the Methodist Theological Institute (MTI), Mission Hill, Umuahia, where he attended worship service unannounced.

Addressing the congregation, Governor Otti expressed gratitude to Abians for their consistent support before, during, and after the elections. He recalled how religious leaders, including the Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia Archdiocese, Most Rev. Dr. Raphael Chibuzo Opoko, and other clergymen, prayed and worked for the transformation of Abia State.

The Governor explained that his administration had to rebuild from what he described as “sub-ground zero,” noting that the government he inherited was in disarray. Drawing an analogy from road construction, Otti compared the early phase of his administration to excavating bad soil to reach a stable foundation.

“I can assure you that we’ve got to a stable soil. The speed with which we ran in the first two years will increase as we move towards the third year,” he said.

Encouraging citizens to stay hopeful, the Governor stated, “I want to encourage you not to lose faith or hope; the best is yet to come. This is our state; it is our responsibility to rebuild it. If we don’t do it, nobody else will do it. And we are fearless about it. We don’t care whose ox is gored once we are doing the right thing.”

He further assured that his government would remain accountable and transparent. “This is a government that will not deliberately do the wrong thing. But when we make a mistake, we will come back, correct ourselves, and apologize,” he said, earning applause from the worshippers.

Delivering the sermon titled “Don’t Lose Heart,” the preacher, Very Rev. Nnaemeka Ndubuwa, Ph.D, emphasized the importance of persistence in prayer, referencing Luke 18:1. He described Abia as God’s Own State and praised Governor Otti as a leader chosen by God to restore the state.

“Prayer is the live wire of every Christian. Communication with God is not complete until there is feedback,” Rev. Ndubuwa said, urging the congregation to keep faith alive through continuous prayer.

Archbishop Chibuzo Opoko later led prayers for the Governor, his team, and the entire state, encouraging Otti not to be distracted by criticism. “A fruitful tree attracts stone,” he reminded the congregation.

Governor Otti attended the service alongside top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu; Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Ph.D; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu; Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu; and the Special Assistant on Religious Matters, Apostle K.C. Wiper. Also present were the Mayors of Umuahia North and Umuahia South LGAs.

The visit reinforced the Governor’s commitment to faith-driven leadership, transparency, and continued development in Abia State.
