The Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers has warned Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu against comments that could strain relations with Governor Alex Otti and President Tinubu, passing a vote of confidence on Otti for his strong leadership and development strides across Abia.
The Abia State Council Of Traditional Rulers Has Cautioned The Deputy Speaker Of The House Of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, To Refrain From Making Statements Capable Of Damaging The Relationship Between Governor Alex Otti, President Bola Tinubu, And The People Of Abia State.
The Warning Came After An Emergency Meeting Of The Council Held On Wednesday At The JAAC Building, Ogurube Layout, Umuahia. During The Meeting, The Royal Fathers Passed A Vote Of Confidence On Governor Otti For His Outstanding Achievements Across Key Sectors Of The State, Including Infrastructure, Health, Education, And Security.
In A Statement Signed By The Council’s Chairman, Eze Linus Nto Mbah, And Jointly Endorsed By The First Deputy Chairman, Eze Nelson Achilefu; Second Deputy Chairman, Eze Franklin Nwosu; And Third Deputy Chairman, Eze Uwakwe Ukaegbu, The Monarchs Described Kalu’s Recent Comments About The Governor’s Performance As “Unsubstantiated And Misleading.”
They Warned That Such Remarks Could Create Unnecessary Political Tension Between The State And The Federal Government, Undermining The Development Efforts Currently Underway In Abia.
“No Governor In The History Of Abia Has Shown Greater Political Will To Fix The State Than Dr. Alex Otti,” The Monarchs Declared.
Addressing Journalists After The Meeting, The Traditional Rulers Praised Governor Otti’s Reforms And Described His Two Years And A Few Months In Office As A Period Of Tangible Progress. They Highlighted The Rehabilitation Of Major Roads Across The Three Senatorial Zones, Revitalization Of Public Health Institutions, And Reforms In The Education Sector As Evidence Of His Commitment To Rebuilding The State.
They Also Applauded The Governor For The Renovation And Functionalisation Of Primary Health Centres Across Political Wards, The Restoration Of Abandoned Health Facilities, Improved Security, And The Consistent Payment Of Salaries And Pensions. The Council Said These Efforts Reflect A Leadership Style Anchored On Transparency, Accountability, And Grassroots Development.
While Commending Otti’s Developmental Drive, The Council Expressed Concern Over What It Called “Unnecessary Political Altercations” Between Political Leaders In The State.
“We Advise Our Political Leaders To Desist From Inflammatory Statements And Media Confrontations That Can Heat Up The Polity Or Cause Disunity Among Abians,” The Statement Read.
The Traditional Rulers Urged Both Governor Otti And Deputy Speaker Kalu To Uphold Mutual Respect And Cooperation In The Interest Of Peace And Good Governance.
“As Custodians Of Culture And Peace, We Appeal To All Political Actors To Put Abia First And Avoid Actions Capable Of Derailing Development. We Will Not Remain Silent While Political Disagreements Escalate Into Crises That Could Threaten The Stability Of The State,” The Monarchs Said.
