Abia Family Accuses Police of Cover Up in Death of Young Man in Custody
Family of late Akobundu Okorie Wisdom accuses officers at Bende Police Station of hiding the truth about his sudden death in custody and demands justice from Abia authorities.
Tension is rising in Bende, Abia State after the family of late Mr. Akobundu Okorie Wisdom accused police officers of hiding the truth behind his sudden death inside the Bende Police Station. The incident has triggered anger and demands for justice.
His elder brother, Okorie Festus, said the death did not follow any normal process. He said a police officer identified as Inspector Evans Onyeka invited the deceased to the station. He went there alive and healthy. Hours later, the family received the news of his death.
Festus said his brother had no police case. He said his brother had no health problem. He said the story released by the police is false.
He explained that he was called and told that his brother was in custody. Before he could get to the station, the police had already rushed his brother to the hospital. No family member was informed before the movement. He said the action shows that his brother was already dead inside the station.
He mentioned two officers. Inspector Evans Onyeka. Another officer known as Austin. He said Austin knows their family very well. He said Austin never contacted him. He said that silence raises suspicion.
Festus described the late Ako as peaceful. He said their family is demanding answers. He wants the DPO, DCO, Inspector Evans, Austin and every officer on duty that day to explain what happened. He said the family will not accept any attempt to twist the story.
Calls for a full investigation are growing. The family wants transparency. They want accountability. They want justice for Ako.
