Gov. Otti Hands Over 28 Vehicles To Permanent Secretaries In Abia State

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has presented 28 brand new Geely Emgrand cars to Permanent Secretaries in the Abia State Civil Service.

The presentation took place on Tuesday at the premises of the newly commissioned Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.

Governor Otti said the gesture was part of his administration’s efforts to restore the dignity of the civil service and enhance productivity by providing the needed tools for effective service delivery.

According to him, “Having appointed you Permanent Secretaries, there is a need to make your job a little easier by providing mobility. Gone are the days of coming to work with keke. Your documents are ready, and you don’t have to pay anything. These cars are fully yours.”

The Governor emphasized that the appointments of the Permanent Secretaries were based on merit, transparency, and competence, noting that no one was chosen through favoritism or personal ties.

“All of you attained this position on your own merit. Even those I knew before the process did not make it because it was transparently conducted,” he said.

Dr. Otti commended the Permanent Secretaries for their cooperation, describing them as key partners in implementing the administration’s policies and programmes. He expressed confidence that the provision of the vehicles would boost morale and result in greater efficiency within the civil service.

He added that his administration is committed to transforming the civil service through a digital-driven system that enhances accountability and efficiency.

“As we begin this next phase of transformation, I am relying on all of you to drive that change, especially in the area of digitalization. I have approved the procurement of internet-ready devices for everyone. We are also working to make the entire state internet ready,” Governor Otti stated.

In his vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands, TPL Ukpabi Ukeje, who spoke on behalf of other Permanent Secretaries, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the gesture, describing it as a major relief that would enhance their productivity.

He prayed for God’s continued guidance and protection over the Governor as he leads Abia State to greater heights.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Sir Chris Onwuegbu, described the presentation as a morale booster that would motivate them to deliver improved service.

The event was attended by top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service, Chief of Staff to the Governor, and various Commissioners.
