Abia Government Debunks Fake Pension Verification Notice Circulating Online
The Abia State Government has warned residents to ignore a fake pension verification notice circulating online, clarifying that no such exercise is scheduled for 2025. Officials reaffirmed commitment to pensioners’ welfare and urged citizens to rely on verified government information channels.
The Abia State Government has issued a strong warning to the public over a fake pension verification exercise notice currently circulating on social media and other online platforms.
The Ministry of Information described the viral message, which claimed that a State and Local Government Pension Verification Exercise would begin on Wednesday, October 16, 2025, as false and misleading.
In an official statement, the government clarified that no such verification exercise is scheduled for 2025, stressing that the only legitimate pension verification took place in 2024.
“The Ministry of Information wishes to categorically state that this information is false, misleading, and not issued by the Abia State Government. The said verification exercise being referenced actually took place last year in 2024, and there is no such exercise scheduled for this year,” the statement read.
The government urged members of the public, particularly retired civil servants and pensioners, to disregard the fake notice and avoid visiting any purported verification venues, as no official exercise is ongoing.
According to the release, the Abia State Government remains committed to protecting pensioners’ welfare and ensuring transparency and due process in pension administration.
“The welfare of our pensioners remains a top priority. We are not conducting any pension verification at this time, and citizens should rely only on official communication channels for accurate information,” the statement added.
The government also appealed to the public to assist in countering the spread of misinformation by sharing verified updates from credible government sources.
This clarification follows recent cases where fraudsters have exploited digital platforms to mislead unsuspecting citizens with false government-related messages.
The Ministry reaffirmed that authentic information from the Abia State Government would always be published through its official website, verified social media pages, and recognized media outlets.
The public has been urged to remain alert and report suspicious messages to the relevant authorities.
