Governor Otti Announces Major Progress in Restoring Electricity Across Abia State
Governor Alex Otti announces major progress in solving electricity challenges in Abia State, with the Geometric Power Project now powering nine LGAs in the Aba ring-fence and plans to extend reliable electricity to Umuahia and other areas.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced significant progress in resolving electricity challenges across the state. The governor made this known on Saturday during the Graduation Ceremony of the School of Politics, Policy, and Governance held in Abuja.
Governor Otti revealed that his administration has successfully addressed power supply issues in Aba, with half of Abia State now benefiting from improved electricity. He also disclosed that efforts are underway to extend the same solution to eight additional local government areas, including Umuahia.
According to him, “We have solved this problem in Aba, and half of Abia State is on it. We have eight other local governments we’re trying to solve, including Umuahia and other places.”
The governor credited the milestone to the successful activation of the Geometric Power Project, which has transformed power distribution in the Aba ring-fence. The ring-fence covers nine Local Government Areas (LGAs): Aba North, Aba South, Osisioma, Ukwa West, Ukwa East, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Obingwa, and Ugwunagbo.
The 181-megawatt Geometric Power Plant, inaugurated in February 2024 by Vice President Kashim Shettima, plays a key role in the project. The plant, through Aba Power Limited Electric (APLE), supplies power to homes and industries across these LGAs, marking a major step toward stable and independent electricity in Abia.
A technical representative of Geometric Power, Amara, explained that synchronization of the gas turbine with the national grid was a critical step in the process. “Synchronization ensures the generator operates at the correct frequency before connecting to the grid. This process, also called paralleling, integrates the gas turbine with the bulk electricity system,” she said.
Geometric Power also acknowledged that the synchronization process caused temporary service disruptions between April 3rd and 7th but assured customers of a quick return to stable electricity.
The development represents one of the boldest steps yet by the Otti administration to enhance energy reliability and attract investment to Abia State’s growing industrial base.
