The Wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, has praised the Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her visionary leadership in driving the Renewed Hope Initiative, a programme aimed at empowering families and strengthening food security across Nigeria.

Speaking at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Umuahia, during the “Every Home a Garden” and Prize Giving Day Ceremony, Mrs. Otti, represented by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adaeze Emetu, commended Senator Tinubu’s dedication to promoting sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment for women through home gardening.

She described the initiative as a practical step toward reducing hunger, improving nutrition, and encouraging women to take charge of their food security. According to her, cultivating small gardens at home will help families become more self-reliant, improve dietary habits, and reduce the impact of economic challenges on household well-being.

Mrs. Otti also lauded Governor Alex Otti for his continuous investment in rural infrastructure, noting that such development efforts support agricultural initiatives that empower women and families. She applauded the Renewed Hope Initiative team for their commitment to realizing the President’s vision of a self-sustaining and empowered Nigerian family.

Delivering a technical presentation, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Cliff Agbaeze, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Ijeoma Aguwa (Ph.D.), advised participants to embrace climate-smart farming practices that conserve soil nutrients and ensure consistent food production throughout the year. He encouraged women to form cooperative clusters to access improved seedlings, fertilizers, and government support programs designed to enhance productivity and sustainability.

The Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Blessing Felix, urged women to make productive use of every available space within their homes for gardening. She emphasized that home gardening offers both empowerment and sustainability, especially in times of rising food costs.

The State Renewed Hope Initiative Desk Officer, Mrs. Amarachi Anyim, expressed appreciation to Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her inclusive vision of transforming Nigerian families through empowerment programmes. She also thanked Mrs. Otti for extending the benefits of the initiative to women at the grassroots level in Abia State.

The event featured the presentation of prizes to outstanding participants of the “Every Home a Garden” competition. The first-place winner received ₦5 million, the second-place winner ₦1 million, and the third-place winner ₦500,000.

The ceremony attracted government officials, women leaders, and beneficiaries from across Abia State.

The “Every Home a Garden” project continues to inspire women to engage in productive home-based agriculture, strengthening food security and supporting economic growth across communities.
