The people of Abia State and the Christian community across Nigeria are mourning the passing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, a global evangelist, teacher of faith, and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, who went to be with the Lord at the age of 80 in Lagos.

Dr. Ukpai, born on January 7, 1945, in Asaga, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, was one of Africa’s most revered preachers and a founding father of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN). His ministry spanned more than five decades, reaching millions through crusades, faith healing, and revival programs that shaped the Pentecostal movement in Nigeria.


Governor Alex Otti Pays Tribute: “A Soldier of Christ Has Gone to Be With the Lord”

In a heartfelt statement, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the revered cleric, describing him as “a soldier of Christ and a generational teacher who yielded himself fully to God.”

The Governor recalled his long-standing father-son relationship with Dr. Ukpai, emphasizing the preacher’s immense influence on Abia, the nation, and the body of Christ.

“Our father in the Lord, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has gone to be with the Lord, to the joy of Heaven and the celebration of angels,” Governor Otti said. “He was the father of all, a soldier of Christ, and a potent instrument for healing, salvation, and fulfilment of God’s word.”

Governor Otti described his passing as “devastating,” noting that Dr. Ukpai’s life left a lasting imprint on countless souls.

“His death is not an end, but a journey to higher glory,” the Governor added. “On behalf of the government and people of Abia State, I extend our deepest condolences to the Ukpai family and the Christian community. May God give them strength to uphold the enduring fire of glory he ignited in the vineyard of the Lord.”


House of Representatives Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, Mourns a “Father of Faith”

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, also paid tribute, describing Dr. Ukpai as “a great servant of God, a moral compass, and a bridge-builder whose life was wholly devoted to evangelism and humanity.”

Kalu commended Dr. Ukpai’s role in shaping modern Pentecostalism in Nigeria through revival crusades, faith healing, and deep teachings on spiritual warfare.

“He was more than a spiritual leader — he was a father of faith and a voice of hope,” Kalu said. “His compassion, integrity, and service will continue to inspire generations. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”


Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso: “A True General of Faith Has Finished His Race”

Philanthropist and entrepreneur, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, described Dr. Ukpai’s passing as “a great loss to the body of Christ and to humanity.”

“He was a man consumed by passion for souls,” Anyaso said. “Each time I met him, I encountered a man of humility, deep conviction, and unwavering faith. He lived with integrity, courage, and purpose.”

He urged Christians not to mourn without hope, adding that Dr. Ukpai “has received the crown of life at the right hand of the Father.”

“Let us honor his legacy by continuing his work — preaching Christ, winning souls, and serving God with the same passion and purity that defined his life,” he said. “Rest well, God’s General. Your impact lives on.”
