Kalu Commends President Tinubu for Approving Police Detective College in Bende, Abia
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu praises President Tinubu for approving a Police Detective College in Bende, Abia State, highlighting its importance for security, youth development, and regional growth in the South East.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, CFR, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving the establishment of a Police Detective College in Bende, Abia State.
Kalu’s appreciation follows the signing into law of the bill to provide a legal framework for the regularization of existing police training institutions and the creation of new ones. The bill was sponsored by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abdulhamid Mallam-Madori.
Before the inclusion of Abia State, the initial list of new police institutions excluded the state. Kalu revealed that he had to lobby extensively to ensure Abia’s inclusion, emphasizing the importance of having a federal security training institution in the state.
The Senate passed the bill on March 5, 2025, while the House of Representatives gave its approval on May 7, 2025.
The Deputy Speaker expressed gratitude to the bill’s sponsor, members of the Senate, and his colleagues in the House for their support and collaboration.
According to him, the establishment of the Police Detective College in Bende will strengthen security operations, improve intelligence gathering, and create opportunities for youth in Abia and the South East region.
Kalu described the development as a major stride in President Tinubu’s drive to reform and professionalize the Nigeria Police Force, and also a testament to the administration’s commitment to equity in the distribution of national projects.
He added that the project would not only bolster the security architecture of the South East but also stimulate local economic growth through infrastructural development and job creation.
