Governor’s Wife Advocates Skill Acquisition For Financial Independence

The Wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has called on women and youths across the state to embrace skill acquisition as a tool for financial independence and sustainable living.

She made this call during the MTN MoMo Agents Training and Support Programme held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Umuahia. The event, organized by MTN Nigeria in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Governor, empowered fifty Abia women and youths with business tools and capacity-building training.

Represented by the Managing Director of the Abia Signage and Advertisement Agency, Mrs. Victoria Onwubiko, Mrs. Otti restated her commitment to promoting women and youth empowerment. She assured that her office would continue to partner with development-focused organizations, NGOs, and individuals with innovative initiatives to create lasting opportunities for Abians.

She also praised Governor Alex Otti for his administration’s investment in skill acquisition, agriculture, and other empowerment programmes targeted at reducing unemployment and improving the socio-economic welfare of citizens.

Mrs. Otti commended MTN Nigeria for its continued investment in grassroots development, describing the gesture as a tangible contribution to poverty reduction and community growth. She urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the training and resources received to build sustainable livelihoods and empower others in their communities.

In her remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Chinenye Nwaka, applauded the Governor’s wife for her passion and consistency in championing women’s empowerment across the state. She also thanked MTN Nigeria for partnering with the state government to support initiatives aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty among women and youths.

Speaking at the event, the MTN Sales and Trade Development Manager for Abia Area, Mr. Mac Daniel Enwemuche, commended Mrs. Otti for her visionary leadership and dedication to women’s advancement. He explained that MTN’s involvement in the programme was a continuation of its support for the Abia Women Delegates Conference (AwaDec), an initiative of the Governor’s wife, which empowered several women earlier in the year.

Enwemuche reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to working with the Abia State Government to promote economic inclusion, create business opportunities, and expand digital and financial access at the grassroots.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Nkechi Okoro, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Otti and MTN Nigeria for their generosity and for creating platforms that would help women and youths become financially stable.

The event featured the distribution of MTN-branded commercial umbrellas and chairs to the beneficiaries and was attended by several dignitaries, including the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Professor Ijeoma Iheukwumere, among others.
