Abia Police Rescue 8 Infants, 10 Stolen Children, Arrest 10 Suspects for Child Trafficking

The Abia State Police Command has rescued eight infants and ten stolen children following a major operation that led to the arrest of ten suspects allegedly involved in conspiracy and child stealing across Aba and its environs.

The breakthrough came after a complaint was lodged at the Ohuru Isimiri Police Division on September 27, 2025, by a young woman from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. The victim reported that she was lured to Aba by a man who promised marriage, only for him to disappear with her two children while she went to buy food.

Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives launched a coordinated operation that uncovered two hideouts where the stolen children were kept.

On October 8, 2025, the Command stormed a residence in Aba and arrested five suspects — Mrs. Best Ndubusi (41), Charles Enyinnaya (25), Eunice Ezekiel (35), Nnena Kalu (60), and Gideon Esther (25). One infant and seven children were rescued.

Continuing the operation, on October 9, 2025, detectives raided another house along Aba/Owerri Road and arrested four more suspects — Obiegbunam Von (65), Ezeoma Rejoice (21), Ngozi Owoh (20), and Favour Ernest (22). Seven infants and three children were recovered.

The crackdown continued on October 10, 2025, when officers apprehended Brittney Oyemuwa Zion (22) at Amuoji Uku, Obingwa LGA, and rescued another child.

All suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Umuahia.

The Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, commended the swift action of the officers and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to fighting all forms of crime in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.

He urged residents searching for missing children to visit the Gender Section of the SCID or contact the Officer in Charge via 08033173846 for identification and recovery procedures.

CP Isa also appealed to the public to stay alert, monitor their wards closely, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005, 08079210006.

The Commissioner assured that the Command remains fully dedicated to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of Abia residents.
