House of Representatives Consider Establishing College of Entrepreneurship in Abia

The House of Representatives has taken a major step towards establishing the Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition in Ntigha, Isiala Ngwa North, Abia State.
On Tuesday, the proposed bill, titled: “A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition, Ntigha, Isiala Ngwa North, Abia State, to Provide Full-time Courses, Teaching, Instruction, and Training in Technology, Applied Science, Arts, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Management; and for Related Matters, successfully passed its second reading during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Tajudeen Abass.
The bill's sponsor, Hon. Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, highlighted the pressing need for such an institution, pointing out that youth unemployment in Nigeria continues to rise due to an overdependence on white-collar jobs.
He emphasized that entrepreneurial education and vocational training must be prioritized to equip young Nigerians with practical skills essential for self-reliance and job creation.
Hon. Onwusibe argued that Ntigha is an ideal location for the institution due to its proximity to major commercial hubs in the Southeast. He explained that the Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition would offer specialized training in:
Agriculture
Technology
Manufacturing
Digital Innovation
These courses, he noted, align with Nigeria's economic diversification efforts and will contribute significantly to national development.
Boosting Local Industries and Reducing Poverty
Empower young Nigerians with in-demand skills
Boost local industries and enhance productivity
Reduce poverty by creating employment opportunities
Stimulate economic growth through innovation and skill development
Hon. Onwusibe urged his colleagues in the House to support the establishment of the institution, stressing that similar entrepreneurial colleges worldwide have played transformative roles in economic development.
"This initiative will not only empower young people but also boost local industries, reduce poverty, and enhance national productivity. Similar institutions have played significant roles in the transformation of economies worldwide, and Nigeria must not be left behind,"he stated.
He further described the proposed college as a catalyst for economic growth, innovation, and sustainable development, urging the House to give its full backing to the legislation.
With the bill progressing beyond its second reading, stakeholders and citizens alike are keenly watching the next legislative steps that could turn this initiative into reality, fostering entrepreneurship-driven economic growth in Abia State and beyond.
