Governor Alex Otti Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Healthcare, Flags Off NNPC Free Cataract Surgery in Abia

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to prioritizing healthcare delivery, emphasizing that he "has no choice but to fix Abia." The Governor made this declaration while receiving a delegation led by Dr. (Mrs) Anne Amugo, the consultant coordinating the Free Cataract Extraction Initiative by the NNPC Foundation in Abia State.

The NNPC-sponsored medical outreach was flagged off in three locations across the state, offering free cataract surgeries to residents in need. The initiative has witnessed massive turnout and enthusiastic participation by beneficiaries, reflecting the deep-rooted need for accessible and affordable healthcare among the people of Abia.

Speaking during the courtesy visit, Governor Otti stressed that healthcare is not only a major pillar of his administration's agenda but a moral imperative.

"Anywhere in the world, healthcare is not cheap. In places where it appears cheap, it is the option of death. That is why we take healthcare seriously and will continue to support initiatives like this,"he said.

The Governor also commended the NNPC Foundation for choosing Abia as the flag-off point for the noble program, praising the impressive mobilisation and public response. He noted that his government has rolled out several medical interventions aimed at bridging the healthcare access gap and improving the wellbeing of citizens across the state.

Governor Otti reiterated his firm resolve to restore Abia to a place of pride, asserting that healthcare is a critical driver of the transformation he envisions for the state.

Earlier in her remarks, Dr. (Mrs) Anne Amugo thanked Governor Otti for his administration's robust support, which she described as pivotal to the success of the free cataract surgery project. She praised the Governor's performance, especially in healthcare, stating that he has changed the narrative of leadership and governance in Abia State.
