Governor Otti Takes Swift Action After Inspecting Gully Erosion Site in Aba
Governor Otti has ordered the evacuation of residents from the affected area due to safety concerns.

Aba, August 4, 2024 — Dr. Alex Otti OFR, the Executive Governor of Abia State, has vowed immediate intervention to address the severe gully erosion plaguing Ovom Street in Aba. The erosion has not only bifurcated the road but has also created extensive valleys, damaged numerous buildings, and destroyed valuable properties in the area.
During a site inspection on Sunday, August 4th, after attending a service at Christ Ascension Church, Governor Otti directed the General Manager of the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA) to mobilize experienced engineers and contractors without delay. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, warning that if not promptly addressed, the erosion could impact adjacent buildings and the road currently under construction.
Governor Otti stated, “It’s very unfortunate that erosion has dealt a deadly blow in this area. If it is not controlled immediately, it will not only affect all the buildings around here but also the opposite side of the road. We need to act quickly, and I have instructed the General Manager of GADA to meet with me later this evening to begin resolving this issue within the next few weeks.”
The Governor stressed that the repair efforts will involve skilled engineers and contractors rather than direct labor. He expressed confidence that the problem could be resolved by the end of the year.
In addition to addressing the erosion, Governor Otti has ordered the evacuation of residents from the affected area due to safety concerns. He assured that those close to the danger zone have already been relocated and urged them not to return to their homes, citing the risks involved.
Earlier in the day, at Christ Ascension Church, Governor Otti took the opportunity to express his gratitude for the congregation's support and reiterated his commitment to good governance. He shared his motivation for entering politics, emphasizing his desire to contribute positively to others’ lives.
Pastor Rev. Jeremiah Chika Mba led the congregation in prayer for the Governor and his team. Governor Otti also thanked the churchgoers for resisting calls to participate in the recent nationwide protests, which have led to violence and destruction. He advocated for peaceful protest methods that avoid endangering lives and property.
