Senate President Akpabio Commends Governor Otti for Honoring Senator Abaribe at 70, Assures Abians of Generosity

The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has praised Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for celebrating the 70th birthday of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, the lawmaker representing Abia South Senatorial Zone. Akpabio made the commendation during a grand ceremony organized by the Abia State Government in honor of the former Deputy Governor and prominent senator.
Describing Senator Abaribe as a man of unwavering integrity and deep love for his people, Akpabio highlighted Abaribe's courage in standing for the Igbo cause. He specifically referenced Abaribe's decision to sign the bail bond for IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, a move that many deemed risky but which Abaribe defended as a stand for justice and fairness.
Abaribe is a man who can sacrifice. He is a man who loves his people, Ndi Igbo. When you signed the bail bond for Nnamdi Kanu, people were shocked, but you stood firm in your belief,Akpabio stated.
Senate President Akpabio further commended Governor Alex Otti for his inclusive leadership, which transcends political affiliations. He noted that Ottis decision to celebrate Senator Abaribe, despite their political differences, demonstrates political maturity and a deep understanding of governance.
Governor Alex Otti is like me—generous and committed to the welfare of his people. By honoring Abaribe, you are winning the hearts of the entire Abia South Senatorial Zone. When you seek re-election, you will realize this was a well-spent investment,Akpabio remarked.
He emphasized that Abaribe is widely respected across Nigeria, making his celebration a significant political and social event.
In his remarks, Governor Alex Otti congratulated Senator Abaribe on his milestone birthday and described him as a fearless leader and truth-teller. He stated that the celebration was not politically motivated but was a recognition of Abaribe's remarkable contributions to Abia State and Nigeria at large.
We are here to celebrate a man of courage and selflessness who is unafraid to speak truth to power. I am not a conventional politician, but I believe that those who deserve honor should be celebrated, and Senator Abaribe is one of them, Governor Otti stated.
He further announced that his administration would honor other distinguished Abians, including Senator Chris Adighije, Bright Chimezie, Paulson Kalu, and a posthumous celebration for Jaja Wachukwu.
Addressing the lingering agitation for Biafra, Governor Otti explained that the struggle today is about equal rights and fair treatment for Ndi Igbo within Nigeria.
The fight for Biafra is not about Nnamdi Kanu alone. It is about ensuring Ndi Igbo are recognized and given equal opportunities like other Nigerians. That is the true essence of this struggle, Otti explained.
Senator Abaribe, while expressing gratitude to Governor Otti and the people of Abia, credited his fathers teachings for shaping his outspokenness and leadership style. He urged leaders to implement policies that uplift citizens and improve their quality of life.
The event featured a sermon by Pastor Chimezie Iheoma of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, who highlighted Abaribe's political resilience and service to the nation. A book titled Unbundled, authored by Abaribe, was also presented, and the occasion concluded with the ceremonial cutting of his birthday cake.
