Catholic Diocese of Umuahia Suspends Fr. Christian Anokwuru Over Disobedience
The Catholic Diocese of Umuahia has suspended Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru, former Provost of Madonna College of Health and Technology, Olokoro, for disobedience to Church authority after publishing a book without ecclesiastical approval.
The Catholic Diocese of Umuahia has suspended Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru, former Provost of Madonna College of Health and Technology, Olokoro, over alleged acts of insubordination and violation of church regulations.
The suspension was contained in an official letter signed by the Catholic Bishop of Umuahia, Most Rev. Dr. Michael Kalu Ukpong, and addressed to members of the Diocesan Pastoral Council.
According to the Bishop, Fr. Anokwuru was suspended following his failure to adhere to the doctrinal and administrative guidelines of the Church. He was accused of publishing a book without securing the mandatory ecclesiastical approval, a clear breach of the Canon Law governing Catholic clerical conduct.
Bishop Ukpong noted that the priest’s actions amounted to disobedience to constituted ecclesiastical authority, describing such behavior as inconsistent with the vows of obedience expected of all Catholic priests.
As part of the disciplinary measures, Fr. Anokwuru has been relieved of his role as Provost of Madonna College of Health and Technology, Olokoro, where he had served prior to the suspension.
The Bishop reaffirmed the Diocese’s commitment to upholding discipline, doctrinal integrity, and the proper observance of Canon Law among clergy members. He urged priests and religious leaders under the Diocese to remain obedient to Church authority and maintain decorum in line with their vows.
