ABSU Law Graduates Protest Long Delay in Law School Approval

Abia State University, Uturu faces rising criticism from former law students who left school between two and four years ago but still wait for approval to proceed to Law School. More than five hundred affected students say the delay traps them at home despite clearing all academic requirements. Many say the situation blocks their future and keeps them dependent on parents long after their mates have moved forward.

The leader of the group, Miss Cherry, spoke in Umuahia. She explained that the University ignored repeated appeals and focused on fresh graduating sets. She added that there is a new plan to compile only the 2025 set. She said this situation pushes several students toward a ten year academic journey that should have ended long ago. She pleaded with Governor Alex Otti and the University management to review their case and end their long wait for Law School approval.

Professor Chijioke Collins, Dean of the Faculty of Law, addressed the issue at the Law Campus in Umuahia. He said he inherited a backlog of about seven hundred students. He explained that the new set already compiled will move in February 2026. He added that a supplementary upload could follow in April 2026. He urged students to stay calm while his office works with state authorities to speed up the process.

The delayed approvals continue to raise tension among affected families. Many students say they feel stuck, frustrated, and embarrassed by the long wait. They demand fast action and transparent communication from the University.
