On Thursday, April 17, 2025, the city of Aba, Abia State, witnessed a significant spiritual and political gathering as the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, and the former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party's 2023 Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, joined Catholic faithful at the Christ the King Catholic Church (CKC), Aba for the 2025 Chrism Mass celebration.

The Chrism Mass, a central liturgical event in the Catholic calendar, was made even more memorable by the presence of the two national figures, who not only worshipped with the congregation but also used the platform to deliver messages of hope, unity, and good governance.

During his address, Governor Alex Otti expressed deep gratitude to the Church for their steadfast support throughout his political journey, especially since 2014. He acknowledged their spiritual guidance and partnership, pledging to continue prioritizing the welfare of Abians and upholding the values of servant leadership.

Referencing biblical scriptures "Psalm 118:22, Matthew 21:42, and Acts 4:11 " the Governor likened Abia's transformation to that of a rejected stone becoming the cornerstone, stating that "Aba and Abia State, once rejected, are now the cornerstone of a new Nigeria."He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting the Church and fostering infrastructure and social development.

In his remarks, Mr. Peter Obi praised Governor Otti's leadership, describing him as a shining example of how public resources should be utilized for the public good. Obi called on political leaders across Nigeria to emulate Otti's people-centered approach to governance, emphasizing that "leadership remains the primary challenge in Nigeria."

He further urged the Church to continue interceding for the nation and was warmly acknowledged by Governor Otti with the honorary title "Okwute Ndi Nigeria"(The Rock of Nigeria), recognizing his unwavering dedication to national transformation.

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Aba, Prof. Augustine Ndubueze Echema, welcomed both dignitaries warmly and commended Governor Otti for the rapid infrastructural improvements across the state, especially the restoration and opening of Port-Harcourt Road in Aba. He noted that the development had improved accessibility and drastically reduced travel time for parishioners and communities along the corridor.

Bishop Echema humorously invited Governor Otti to consider full baptism into the Catholic faith, following the footsteps of his wife, further strengthening his ties with the Church.

Governor Otti was accompanied by notable state leaders including the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, Hon. Aaron Uzodike (Aba North), Hon. Ucheonye Steven (Aba Central), Mayor of Aba South, Hon. Obilor Anyanwu, Mayor of Aba North, Hon. Timothy Iheke, and Former Mayor of Aba North, Ide John Udeagbala, among others.

The event highlighted the intersection of faith and governance, showcasing a model of leadership grounded in service, humility, and community development.
