Hope Rises for Aba Mega Mall as Abia Government Engages in Revival Talks

After a decade of abandonment, the Aba Mega Mall Project is set for a revival as the Abia State Government and Greenfield Assets Limited initiate discussions on breathing new life into the multimillion-dollar investment. The mall, commissioned in May 2015, was left unused by the previous administration, but under the leadership of Governor Dr. Alex Otti, optimism is growing for its transformation into a Manufacturing Ecosystem and Export Hub.

Following a crucial meeting with Governor Dr. Alex Otti, Dr. Paul Obanua, Group Chairman of Greenfield Assets Limited, could not contain his excitement. Speaking to the press, he shared how heartbreaking it had been to watch his $10 million investment lie dormant for ten years. However, he expressed confidence that the Governor commitment to development and economic growth would finally see the project realized.

We are very excited that the Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has granted us an audience we have not had in this state for the past ten years. We are now ready to bring in investments worth over 50 billion to convert the Aba Mega Mall into a thriving Manufacturing Park and Export Hub,Dr. Obanua stated.

He emphasized that a key factor in any successful development project is political will. According to him, even if the people desire progress, nothing will work if their leaders lack the determination to drive change. However, he praised Governor Otti for his strong commitment to development, stating that the Governor leadership is focused on creating opportunities for economic growth.

Outlining the new vision for the Aba Mega Mall, Dr. Obanua revealed that the site would be transformed into an Industrial Manufacturing Park and Export Hub that caters to US, European, Asian, and African markets. The proposed manufacturing ecosystem aims to revolutionize Aba garment and footwear industry, which is already renowned for its entrepreneurial spirit.

Automated Industrial Garment Cutting and Sewing Machines to increase productivity by over 100 times.

Reliable power supply to ensure smooth operations.

Product standardization and certification to meet international export standards.

Our goal is to provide industrial manufacturing as a service to Aba talented garment and footwear artisans, helping them scale up production, standardize their products, and access global markets,” Dr. Obanua added.

In response, Governor Dr. Alex Otti reaffirmed his administration commitment to partnering with credible investors to drive economic development in Abia State. He assured the Greenfield Assets Limited team that their request would be carefully reviewed, with further engagements scheduled between the company and government officials.

Governor Otti emphasized that his primary mission in governance is to create wealth for the people by supporting projects that generate employment and boost industrialization.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Sam Chidoka, CEO of Anchoria Advisory Services and financial adviser to Greenfield Assets Limited, expressed appreciation for Governor Otti humility and visionary leadership. He praised the Governor business-friendly policies and commitment to transforming Abia economy, stating that his success would serve as a model for encouraging more private-sector professionals to enter politics.

With Governor Otti strong backing and Greenfield Assets Limited ambitious plans, the long-abandoned Aba Mega Mall is now on the verge of a historic revival. If successfully implemented, the project will unlock massive economic potential for Aba manufacturing sector, create thousands of jobs, and position the city as a key player in the global export market.
