PDP Crisis in Abia: Man Appointed Women Leader, Elderly Woman Named Youth Leader in Isuikwuato Ward 4 Disciplinary Action Recommended

In a bizarre turn of events in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has found itself embroiled in controversy following reports that a man was allegedly nominated as Women Leader, while an aged woman was appointed as Youth Leader in Isuamawu Ward 4.
The anomaly, which sparked outrage among party members especially women and youths in the ward was uncovered by a 7-man disciplinary committee led by Hon. Goddy Nnorom. The committee has since submitted its findings and recommendations, calling for disciplinary measures against the individuals involved in the controversial selections.
According to the committee, these appointments not only defy logic and fairness but also violate the provisions of the 2017 PDP Constitution (as amended), particularly Sections 58(1)-(a)(b)(d)(e)(g)(i), which deal with conduct detrimental to the party's image and order.
"The party's disciplinary committee has carefully reviewed the numerous infractions and confirmed that the process was riddled with irregularities,"Hon. Nnorom said. "There were qualified youths and young women within the ward who were unjustly sidelined, thereby creating room for chaos and division within the party."
He further cited a recent Supreme Court ruling which reaffirms that party membership and internal decisions remain the prerogative of the party. Nonetheless, he emphasized that the party must operate within its constitution to ensure fairness, credibility, and internal democracy.
In line with Section 59(1)(d) of the PDP Constitution, the committee has recommended the suspension of all party members involved in the abnormal selections and any other individual found to be instigating crisis within the ward.
This decision is aimed at restoring sanity and discipline in the party's internal structure and preventing future occurrences of such irregularities.
Party stakeholders across Abia State have expressed concern over the development, urging the state leadership of the PDP to swiftly implement the disciplinary measures to safeguard the integrity of the party at the grassroots level.
The affected ward, Isuamawu Ward 4, is expected to undergo a fresh round of internal consultations to properly fill the Women and Youth Leader positions in a manner consistent with the party's guiding principles and constitutional requirements.
