NSCDC and Nigerian Navy Strengthen Partnership to Tackle Oil Theft in Abia

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigerian Navy have reiterated their commitment to collaborating in the fight against oil theft, a menace threatening Nigeria’s economic stability.

The Commandant of the NSCDC Abia State Command, Akinsola Aderemi, expressed this determination during a courtesy visit to the Department of Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance, Owerrinta. The visit aimed to strengthen the existing partnership between the two agencies and enhance their efforts to secure Abia State’s waterways.

Aderemi emphasized that the collaboration would promote peace and security across the region, stating, “This partnership is crucial in combating crude oil theft and protecting critical infrastructure, which are essential for our national economy.

Welcoming the NSCDC delegation, the Commandant of the Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance, Navy Captain O. A. Eyitayo, reaffirmed the Navy’s support for the NSCDC. He described the relationship between the two agencies as “smooth and cordial” and highlighted the importance of joint operations in tackling oil theft.

“Although the NSCDC is the lead agency in the protection of critical infrastructure, combating oil theft has become a collective responsibility,” Captain Eyitayo stated. “Oil theft is a significant challenge, and its prevention requires collaborative efforts on both waterways and land.”

Both leaders stressed the urgent need for synergy among security outfits to safeguard Nigeria’s oil resources. Oil theft, which affects Nigeria’s revenue generation and economic growth, requires coordinated action to eliminate.

Captain Eyitayo expressed optimism that the collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and NSCDC, alongside other security agencies, would ensure the success of operations aimed at curbing this criminal activity.

The courtesy visit underscores the commitment of both agencies to achieving a secure environment for Nigeria’s oil sector. Strengthening ties and fostering collaboration will ensure that critical infrastructure and waterways are protected, contributing to national economic stability.

As Nigeria continues its fight against oil theft, partnerships like this one are vital to addressing the challenges and preserving the country’s most significant economic resource.
