Governor Otti Saves Over N3 Billion on NYSC Camp Renovation, Vows to Fix Abia’s Infrastructure Without Borrowing

Aba, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, OFR, has reiterated his administration commitment to revamping decayed infrastructure across Abia State, whether they are Federal or State projects, to improve the lives of the people.

The Governor made this declaration on Sunday, February 2nd, while addressing the congregation at Living Word Church Headquarters, located along Aba-Owerri Road, Abayi, Aba, where he worshipped unannounced, as is his usual practice.

Governor Otti reacted to images and videos sent to him showing the ongoing renovation of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Bende LGA, a project undertaken by his administration despite being a Federal Government facility. He emphasized that his government does not differentiate between State and Federal projects when they impact the people.

NYSC is a Federal project, but in Abia, we dont distinguish between Federal and State projects; otherwise, we would not be fixing Port Harcourt Road, we would not be dualizing the Owerrinta to Umuikaa road, and we would be working on the Ohafia to Arochukwu road,Otti declared, drawing applause from the congregation.

The Governor revealed that when the State Director of NYSC sought assistance, he dispatched a team to assess the camp. Their findings showed that all 26 buildings, including a major hall, were in a terrible state of disrepair. Contractors quoted N3.6 billion for the renovation, but the government opted for direct labor, completing the project at just N520 million, saving the state over N3 billion.

Instead of spending N3.6 billion, we only spent N520 million. That is how we achieved most of our successes in the past 20 months without borrowing a kobo,Otti stated.

The Governor clarified that while he is not against borrowing, he would only do so when it is absolutely necessary.

Governor Otti emphasized that his administration is built on honesty and has no patience for dishonest individuals.

This administration was brought by God, and God is honesty Himself. If you want to be a friend of this administration, remain honest,he warned.

He further explained that despite the economic crisis, his government has learned to be prudent, ensuring that even 100 spent by the administration yields significant impact.

What 100 may not achieve elsewhere, it will achieve here,he added.

During his sermon, Brother Emma Okorie, the Founder and General Overseer of Living Word Church, described Governor Ottiâemergence as “captivity overturned. He recalled an experience where Abuja authorities refused to grant a university license for Aba, branding it a garbage city.

I told them that Aba is not a garbage city, and one day, it will become a golden city. That day has come under Governor Otti leadership,he declared.

He praised the Governor visible achievements and prayed for his continued success and the prosperity of Abia State.

Governor Otti was accompanied to the church by several government functionaries and political leaders, including:

Hon. Fyne Ahuama Member, Abia State House of Assembly (Osisioma South Constituency)

Hon. Iheanacho Nwaogu Member, Abia State House of Assembly (Osisioma North Constituency)

Hon. Chibueze Nwokocha Commissioner for Trade and Commerce

Hon. Chidi Agu Mayor of Osisioma

Hon. Timothy Iheke Mayor of Aba North

Hon. Emmanuel Nwaeze Oti Acting Chairman, Labour Party, Abia State

Their presence further emphasized government-unity and shared commitment to the progress of Abia State.

Governor Alex Otti has once again demonstrated his administration focus on infrastructure development, financial prudence, and people-oriented governance. His decision to renovate Federal roads and facilities, such as the NYSC Orientation Camp, underscores his commitment to service over bureaucracy.

With his administration saving over N3 billion on a single project, without borrowing, Abians are witnessing a new era of fiscal responsibility, transparency, and impactful governance.

As Abia continues its transformation journey, the people remain hopeful that Governor Otti leadership will fulfill the promise of a truly prosperous state.
