Abia State Judiciary Declares One-Week Easter Holiday for Judges

In a formal announcement that signals a temporary pause in legal proceedings across the state, the Chief Judge of Abia State, Hon. Justice Lilian Abai, has approved a one-week Easter holiday for all judges in the state judiciary. The break will commence on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, and end on Monday, April 28, 2025.
The directive was issued in a statement signed by Mrs. Alwell Beauty, the Acting Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice, Umuahia. The judiciary is expected to resume full judicial activities on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
The vacation, which falls in line with the annual observance of the Easter celebration, was approved in accordance with Order 45, Rule 5(b) of the Abia State High Court (Practice and Procedure), 2021. This provision authorizes scheduled judicial holidays and ensures legal compliance in the declaration of such breaks.
The statement advised all branches of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) within the state, as well as members of the general public, to take note of the development. Lawyers, litigants, and court users are expected to plan their activities in line with the temporary suspension of court sittings.
This announcement comes as part of the judiciary's effort to provide time for rest and reflection during the Easter season, a significant period in the Christian calendar.
