Abia CP Orders Investigation Into Police Officer Caught In Viral Keke Extortion Video

The Abia State Police Command has commenced a full investigation into a viral video that surfaced on Facebook showing a traffic officer allegedly attempting to extort money from an auto-rickshaw (Keke) rider in Umuahia.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the officer in question has already been identified and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for proper handling.

“The Abia State Police Command is aware of a trending video on Facebook showing a traffic officer of the Command who was alleged of attempting to extort an auto-rickshaw (Keke) rider,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, condemned the alleged act and stressed that the Command maintains zero tolerance for unprofessional conduct by its officers. He assured that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures.

“We want the public to know that the Abia Police Command takes matters of professionalism and discipline seriously. Any officer found wanting will be appropriately sanctioned, as no one is above the law,” CP Isa declared.

He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to uphold the values and ethics of the Nigeria Police Force as directed by the Inspector-General of Police. According to him, officers in Abia have been instructed to conduct themselves in a professional, law-abiding, and people-friendly manner while carrying out their duties.

The Command urged members of the public to continue to report cases of misconduct involving police personnel. It assured that every report would be investigated and necessary actions taken to preserve public trust and confidence in the Force.

The investigation remains ongoing as the State CID takes up the case.
