We Didn’t Support You in 2023, But Now We Do — Aba Union Endorses Gov. Otti for 2027

The political landscape in Abia State witnessed a significant shift as members of the Aba Union, the apex socio-cultural leadership body of the nine Local Government Areas (LGAs) that make up the Old Aba Division, have openly declared their unwavering support for the re-election of Governor Alex Chioma Otti (OFR) in the forthcoming 2027 gubernatorial elections.
This commitment was made during a private high-level meeting held at the Aba residence of elder statesman and first Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Abia State, Chief Theo Nkire. The gathering had in attendance prominent political and traditional leaders from across the Ukwa la Ngwa nation.
In his welcome address, Chief Theo Nkire, alongside the President of Aba Union, HRM Eze Love Nwogu, stated that the visit was a mark of honour and appreciation for the outstanding achievements of Governor Otti. They described the Governor as a “worthy son” who has surpassed all expectations and delivered developmental projects that have transformed the state within just two years.
“We may not have supported you in 2023, but today, we have seen your undeniable works. You have done in two years what others couldn’t achieve in 24 years,” Chief Nkire stated.
Projects such as the Port Harcourt Road reconstruction, the Abia Industrial Innovation Park (AIIP) in Owaza, the proposed International Airport in Nsulu, and the Medical Village in Owerrinta, all sited within Aba Union’s territory, were highlighted as key testaments to Otti’s performance. They announced plans to organize a grand civic reception in his honour and requested the Governor to approve a date.
The union leaders also expressed delight over the rigid pavement reconstruction technology being applied to Ohanku and Obohia roads, with more upcoming projects like the Uratta and Old Express roads.
Adding more political weight to the gathering, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, and other stakeholders including Senator Darlington Nwokocha and Chief Chibuike Nwokeukwu, SAN, threw their full support behind Governor Otti, describing him as the consensus candidate for 2027. They questioned what any potential aspirant could possibly campaign with after the Governor’s visible and unmatched performance.
Governor Alex Otti, in his response, thanked the union for their encouragement and credited his success to divine grace. He reminded the attendees that his 2023 victory was ordained by God and reiterated his administration’s focus on quality infrastructure, peace, and sustainable development.
He also revealed that the residence and access road of Late Chief Jaja Wachukwu—a revered son of Ngwaland—are undergoing major renovation in preparation for a posthumous birthday celebration on January 1, 2026.
Governor Otti emphasized that his administration would not tolerate political irresponsibility or any acts that may threaten the peace and security of Abia State.
The meeting attracted a wide range of dignitaries including Mayors of Aba South, Obingwa, Osisioma, Ugwunagbo, and Ukwa East LGAs, traditional rulers, former and current state officials, and Ukwa la Ngwa stakeholders from within and outside the country.
With this open endorsement from a powerful regional bloc, Governor Otti’s 2027 ambition has received a strong boost, signaling a possible smooth ride to a second term.
