Abia CP Warns Against Unlawful Detention, Emphasizes Thorough Investigations Before Charging Cases to Court

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Police Command, CP Danladi Isa, has issued a stern warning to officers against abuse of power, unlawful detention of suspects, and charging cases to court without conducting thorough investigations.
Speaking at the Police Officers Mess in Umuahia on Thursday during the National Police Day celebration, CP Isa emphasized the need for professionalism, respect for human rights, and strict adherence to due process in policing activities.
Addressing officers, including Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Heads of Departments (HODs), and Tactical Team Commanders, CP Isa stressed the importance of diligence in stop-and-search operations and criminal investigations. He urged officers to uphold the highest standards of service in line with the evolving modern Nigeria Police Force (NPF), ensuring they meet international policing standards.
He reiterated that every case must be meticulously investigated before being taken to court, warning that any officer found engaging in arbitrary arrests, unlawful detentions, or premature court charges would face disciplinary action.
Beyond internal police operations, CP Isa encouraged routine stakeholder engagement to foster better police-community relations. He also highlighted the rising cases of mob action in Abia State and called for public education to curb the trend.
The CP noted that public sensitization is crucial in ensuring that citizens understand the legal implications of taking the law into their own hands.
As part of the National Police Day celebration, CP Danladi Isa honored two recently retired senior officers ACP Uduak Isaac and ACP Afokwalam Gabriel Nneji for their meritorious service to the nation.
The event served as a moment of reflection on the sacrifices and dedication of police officers while reinforcing the command's commitment to ethical law enforcement practices in Abia State.
