YPP Offers Alex Otti Gubernatorial Ticket Amid Labour Party Crisis

As internal turmoil continues to rock the Labour Party (LP), the Young Progressive Party (YPP) has stepped forward with a strategic offer to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti — pledging its platform for his 2027 re-election bid, should the crisis in LP remain unresolved.
This offer was made public on Friday by YPP chieftain, Bestman Eruba, who praised Governor Otti’s performance and described his leadership as transformational and well-aligned with the ethos of the YPP. According to Eruba, the governor’s projects, people-focused programmes, and progressive policies mirror YPP’s core values.
“We will yield the YPP platform for Governor Alex Otti whenever he needs political refuge,” Eruba declared. “His style, projects, programmes, and policies align with the objectives of our party. The YPP will offer him an automatic ticket to consolidate his agenda of good governance and democratic dividends for Abians.”
Eruba further expressed confidence that Governor Otti would secure a landslide victory in 2027, citing the governor’s “tangible and people-oriented scorecard” as a major asset. He emphasized that no amount of political conspiracy should be allowed to derail Otti’s leadership focus.
“YPP is your home, come and coast to victory in 2027,” he said, positioning the party as a reliable platform for continuity in governance.
The YPP’s endorsement of Otti comes on the heels of the 2023 gubernatorial election where the party’s candidate, Enyinnaya Nwafor, came third behind Otti of the Labour Party and PDP’s Okey Ahaiwe. Despite that, YPP made significant gains — sweeping Osisioma LGA and winning two Abia State House of Assembly seats (later defected to LP) and two chairmanship positions in the November 2, 2024, local government elections.
Eruba concluded by reiterating YPP’s readiness to play a strategic role in sustaining good governance in Abia. He said the party remains strongly organized, service-oriented, and committed to democratic ideals, making it a viable political base for Otti in the face of LP’s internal friction.
