We Are Not Bothered by Opposition's Noise- Gov. Alex Otti as He Welcomes Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe, Others Into Labour Party

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has downplayed concerns over political opposition in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that he remains focused on governance rather than distractions from critics and rival parties.

Governor Otti made this known while receiving Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe, the lawmaker representing Bende North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, who recently defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP).

The Governor, while addressing the delegation accompanying Hon. Ibekwe, stated that most political noise from the opposition is motivated not by genuine electoral ambition but by ulterior motives such as seeking recognition, negotiations, or long-term self-promotion.

"We are not bothered about the oppositions and their noise. Sometimes, people show up just to be noticed during primaries, or to negotiate, or to plant seeds for future relevance. They are not always serious contenders," Gov. Otti remarked.

Reaffirming his commitment to governance, Otti said his administration would continue to respond to political distractions with impactful projects across the state.

"People are making noise, but I respond with work. We are committed to the job our people gave us. For us, governance is about stewardship and leadership. And that's what's keeping us here," he emphasized.

Governor Otti congratulated Hon. Ibekwe for his "bold and voluntary"decision to leave the PDP, stressing that no one coerced him. He noted that the Labour Party remains open, inclusive, and focused on delivery rather than partisanship.

"Once you join us, you become a ranking member. We don't discriminate in the Labour Party,"Otti said, adding that an official welcome event will soon be organized in Ibekwe's honor.

In his address, Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe praised Governor Otti's developmental strides, which he said inspired his decision to join the Labour Party. Describing the governor's achievements as "unprecedented,"Ibekwe declared unwavering support for Otti's 2027 re-election campaign.

"This is the best time for the people of Abia. We're standing solidly behind the visionary leadership of Governor Alex Otti," Ibekwe declared.

The lawmaker was accompanied by prominent political stakeholders from Bende North including Dr. Cliff Agbaeze (Commissioner for Agriculture), Chief Uwakwe Maduka (LP stalwart), Mr. Mascot Obike (former Commissioner for Boundary Matters), and Mr. Okey Ezeala (APC spokesperson in Abia State), among others.

This development further strengthens the Labour Party's political base in Abia State as it continues to attract key figures from rival parties.
