VIO Fines Motorist ₦1,000 for Not Having Condom in First Aid Box on Okigwe–ABSU Road

An unusual incident along the Okigwe–ABSU road has stirred conversation online after a motorist claimed he was fined ₦1,000 by Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) for allegedly failing to carry a condom in his car’s first aid box.

In a viral post shared on Facebook, Tochukwu Ogbuagu (KepukepuTv) narrated how he was stopped by VIO officials who checked his car papers, fire extinguisher, spare tyre, and triangle signal. According to him, the officers then asked to inspect his first aid box and insisted it was “incomplete.”

“They said I’m supposed to have a bottle of iodine, GV a bottle of spirit, one card of paracetamol, and one packet of condom,” Tochukwu wrote, expressing shock.

“I was very curious to know what concern motor with condom. They said it’s part of emergency requirements to be allowed to drive on the road. These guys booked me and collected ₦1,000 because I no carry condom for motor.”

The incident reportedly took place after the constellation site on the Okigwe to ABSU road. Tochukwu’s post has since sparked debate, with many Nigerians questioning whether carrying a condom is a legitimate requirement for vehicle first aid kits.

Calls are now growing for relevant authorities to clarify if such enforcement is backed by law, or if the officers acted outside their mandate.
