Rev. Amalambu Urges Christians to Heed Call for Active Political Participation
Rev. Blessed Amalambu has urged Christian leaders to embrace Emmanuel Ihim’s call for active political participation, stressing that only righteous leadership can transform Nigeria, as highlighted at the Christian Citizenship Network Summit in Umuahia.

A prominent Abia clergy, Rev. Blessed Amalambu, has called on Christian leaders to embrace the advocacy of Barr. Emmanuel Ihim as a clarion call for believers to engage actively in politics and governance.
Rev. Amalambu made the appeal while speaking with journalists in Umuahia on the sidelines of the Christian Citizenship Network Summit, held over the weekend in the Abia State capital.
The summit was convened to mobilise Christian communities for greater involvement in civic responsibility, moral leadership, and political engagement. It drew participants from across faith communities, including clergy, youth representatives, government officials, and members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Amalambu, who is the outgoing Southeast Zonal Assistant Secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), outgoing Secretary of PFN Abia State, an executive member of CAN Abia State, and General Overseer of Christ Generation Ministry Inc., stressed that politics is simply the process of choosing leaders. He argued that earlier teachings that discouraged Christians from politics created a vacuum that was filled by ungodly influences.
“Many Christians were wrongly taught in earlier generations to avoid political participation, which left governance largely in the hands of people without knowledge of God’s laws,” he said. “This withdrawal allowed corruption to flourish and turned politics into a system hijacked by ungodly influences.”
Citing biblical precedent, Rev. Amalambu explained that from the Old Testament, priests, prophets, and kings were God’s chosen vessels to ensure righteous governance. He stressed that only righteousness exalts a nation, while ungodly rulers make laws that bring frustration and sorrow to the people.
At the summit, speakers emphasized the importance of Christians shaping policy, mentoring younger leaders, and ensuring moral guidance in governance. Discussions also focused on voter education and the need for believers to take active roles in both elective and appointive positions.
Rev. Amalambu pointed out that Ihim’s advocacy aligns with the scriptural injunction in Isaiah 9:6, which declares that “the government shall be upon the shoulders of God’s people.” He maintained that the Kingdom of God is anchored on righteousness, justice, and truth, and only Christians who live by these values can enact laws and policies that will bring blessings to society.
The summit also received commendation from Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, who described it as a timely platform for advancing moral leadership and civic responsibility. Resolutions reached at the event included commitments to organise voter education drives, mentor Christian youth for leadership, and monitor legislation to ensure alignment with justice and righteousness.
Rev. Amalambu warned that as long as Christians remain disengaged from governance, Nigeria will continue to grapple with corruption and failed systems. Yet he expressed optimism that with renewed commitment, inspired by the summit and advocates like Ihim, the country can raise leaders of integrity who will provide direction anchored on godly values.
