Peter Obi Applauds Governor Alex Otti’s Performance, Says “You Don’t Need Radio to See His Works” at Two-Year Anniversary Service

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has hailed the achievements of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, describing his two-year tenure as a clear demonstration of impactful leadership.

Speaking at a Special Anniversary Sabbath Service held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Aguiyi Ironsi Layout, Umuahia, Mr. Obi declared that Governor Otti’s works are so visible and transformational that Abians do not need to listen to radio reports to know what is happening in the state.

“Everybody is seeing it in Abia. You don’t need to tune to the radio. You don’t need people to tell you. There’s a difference. And that’s what we’re celebrating today,” Obi stated.

He emphasized that Governor Otti has achieved what many claim would take multiple terms, proving that even a single day of sincere leadership can make a difference.

“People have always said they need eight years, ten years, or more. But I’ve always maintained that one day can make a difference. Governor Otti has proven that in just two years.”

Mr. Obi also used the opportunity to call on Abians and Nigerians at large to continue praying for leaders, especially those striving to govern with integrity and purpose. He reminded the congregation that public funds must be used for public good, and leaders must see themselves as trustees, not owners.

“It is difficult to govern Nigeria, especially when you want to do it right. Continue to pray for the Governor and his Commissioners. Pray for Nigeria too — that God should touch our hearts as leaders to use public money for public good.”

“I’m not desperate to be President; I’m desperate to see Nigeria work. We need more leaders like Alex Otti,” Obi added.

In his response, Governor Alex Otti attributed every milestone his administration has recorded in the last two years to divine grace and guidance.

Quoting 1 Corinthians 3:6-7, he acknowledged that while he and his team may have worked hard, it is God who gave the increase and made their efforts fruitful.

“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God gave the increase. So, because we recognize that everything we have done is of the Lord… we return all the thanks to Him,” the Governor said.

Otti also expressed deep appreciation to Mr. Peter Obi for his unwavering support and to the Church for its consistent prayers. He thanked all arms of government in the state — executive, legislative, and judiciary — for aligning with the vision of the New Abia Project.

The sermon of the day, titled “At the Fullness of Time” was delivered by Pastor Enyinnaya K. Uguru, former President of the Abia North Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Pastor Uguru emphasized the importance of preparation during periods of delay, noting that God’s purpose was ultimately fulfilled in Governor Otti’s emergence as Governor after several previous attempts.

“You are doing well. I say this because I have evidence,” the preacher declared, drawing applause from the congregation.

The theme of the event, “Two Years of Transformation: Sustaining the Momentum,” resonated deeply with attendees, as the Governor’s developmental strides — from infrastructure to governance reforms — continue to earn him widespread praise.

The service also featured special intercessory prayers for the Governor, his administration, and the people of Abia State, and was graced by senior government officials, community leaders, and dignitaries from various sectors.
