NSCDC Rescues Minor, Detains Two Child-Trafficking Suspects In Abia

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Command in Abia State has arrested two suspects for alleged child trafficking and abduction in Aba. The arrest followed a successful operation carried out on December 26, based on credible intelligence.
The suspects, identified as 24-year-old Uche Royal from Ohaji Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State and 20-year-old Chidera Donatus from Nenwe in Agwu LGA of Enugu State, were apprehended during the operation. The NSCDC team also rescued a three-year-old girl, Chiamaka Ahamefula, from Ukpaka Ukwu in Umuahia.
According to a statement issued by the NSCDC’s spokesperson, ASC Doreen Udugwu, investigations revealed that the suspects were part of a larger network engaged in child trafficking. The duo allegedly operated under the guidance of an accomplice identified as Danji, who remains at large.
Udugwu stated that the suspects had been involved in the illicit trade for some time, with Donatus being introduced to the operation by Danji. The NSCDC Commandant in Abia State, Akinsola Aderemi, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to combating crime in the state. He assured the public that the suspects would be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
In her statement, Udugwu urged parents to prioritize the safety and proper upbringing of their children to prevent such occurrences. She emphasized the importance of community vigilance in identifying and reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
This arrest highlights the NSCDC’s resolve to tackle child trafficking and ensure the safety of vulnerable children in Abia State.
