Mrs. Otti Hosts Christmas Funfair, Vows to Protect Abia Children from Child Trafficking

The Wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, has reiterated her commitment to the welfare and protection of children in Abia State, describing them as the greatest treasure of parenthood. She made this declaration at a Christmas funfair held at the Government House, Umuahia, where she celebrated the children of Abia State in grand style.
The event, organized as part of the holiday festivities, was filled with joy, games, drama, and gift distributions. Speaking during the event, Mrs. Otti emphasized the significance of Christmas as a season of love, joy, and sharing. She highlighted the importance of creating a nurturing world where every child feels cherished and protected.
“This season reminds us of the importance of creating a world where every child feels loved, cherished, and protected. Their safety, well-being, and future are non-negotiable,” she stated.
Reaffirming her dedication to safeguarding children, Mrs. Otti referenced her advocacy during the recently concluded 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, where she pledged to uphold the rights and dignity of every child in the state.
“We will not tolerate acts of violence, abuse, or exploitation of children in Abia State. Child trafficking, abuse, and molestation are heinous crimes that destroy young lives and futures. Together, we must raise awareness, enforce the law, and rid our state of such atrocities to ensure every child grows up in a safe and nurturing environment,” Mrs. Otti asserted.
She also stressed the importance of education, noting that it is a fundamental right for all children regardless of their background. She called on parents to engage their children meaningfully, foster homes built on kindness, and lead by example.
The event also featured contributions from key stakeholders in Abia State’s child welfare initiatives. Dr. Maureen Aghukwa, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Ogechi Oguama, praised Mrs. Otti’s initiative, describing it as a reflection of her genuine commitment to children’s well-being.
Mrs. Oguama reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to advocating for the full domestication of the Child Rights Act in Abia State, which would strengthen legal protections for children.
Additionally, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, emphasized Governor Alex Otti’s efforts to prioritize children’s development. He highlighted the Governor’s declaration of free basic education and the ongoing remodeling of schools to provide a solid foundation for Abia’s children.
The Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Mrs. Ngozi Felix, encouraged parents to instill strong moral values in their children, emphasizing that responsible parenting is essential for nurturing future leaders.
The Christmas funfair brought smiles to the faces of children, who participated in various activities, including drama, dance, quizzes, and games. Mrs. Otti distributed gifts to the children, creating an atmosphere of excitement and gratitude.
The event reinforced Mrs. Otti’s unwavering dedication to fostering a brighter, safer, and more equitable future for Abia’s children. Her efforts continue to inspire hope and progress in the fight against child trafficking, abuse, and exploitation in the state.
