LG Poll: Zenith Labour Party waxes stronger ahead of election, LP in crisis

As Abia State prepares for its chairmanship and councillorship elections on November 2, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has officially kicked off its campaign with an energizing event held at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba. State Chairman Chris Onukwue addressed the ZLP candidates, urging them to take their message to the farthest reaches of Abia to secure victory across the state’s 17 local government areas.

“We are fully prepared to win this election,” Onukwue declared, calling for a unified front between the candidates and the party leadership. He emphasized that the party’s candidates must work closely together to bring ZLP’s vision to every community.

Notable candidates, including Chinedu Ekeke, former Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Alex Otti and chairmanship candidate for Isuikwuato, alongside Smart Ihuoma, the Umuahia North chairmanship candidate, vowed to represent a new era of grassroots leadership. Ekeke expressed his commitment, saying, “With the ZLP ticket, we will reach every corner of Abia and secure victory. We are dedicated to serving the people with transparency and commitment.”

The ZLP’s visibility has surged throughout Abia, with campaign posters widely displayed in Umuahia and Aba, signaling strong momentum. This rise in prominence comes as the ruling Labour Party faces internal disputes, with factions led by Emmanuel Otti and Ndubueze clashing for control. This situation may shift support towards the ZLP as Abians seek clear, stable leadership ahead of election day.

Governor Alex Otti, while commissioning projects in Aba, encouraged Abians to vote for capable leaders, regardless of political affiliation. “Abia people will always support the right candidates, irrespective of party loyalty,” he stated.

With just days remaining until the election, the ZLP aims to maintain its campaign momentum, engaging communities and building on its promise of accountable and effective local leadership.
