Governor Otti Assures Completion Of Abiriba-Ohafia-Arochukwu Road By 2026, Promises More Quality Projects

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to road infrastructure, announcing that the Abiriba-Ohafia-Arochukwu road will be completed and commissioned by 2026.

Governor Otti made this known on Saturday during the 2025 New Yam Festival of the Ata Igbo Ukwu, Umuzomgbo Autonomous Community, held at the palace of HRM Eze Linus Nto Mbah.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor disclosed that work on the 9-kilometer Ihechiowa Ring Road has reached the procurement stage and would be flagged off for construction in the coming weeks. He noted that his government has adopted innovative measures to deliver durable projects at reduced costs.

“The other roads you see around, I’m sure you’ll be surprised because of the quality of the roads. You may be surprised that it is by direct labour through the Ministry of Works,” Governor Otti said.

He explained that by executing projects through direct labour, the government has been able to save about 75 percent of the costs that would have been incurred if the contracts were awarded to external contractors.

“Any road they do, we have been saving about 75% of the cost from awarding them to contractors. So, I’m sure that very soon, the road to this place will be as smooth as the other roads we are doing,” the Governor assured.

The Governor’s remarks came as he joined the people of Umuzomgbo Autonomous Community in celebrating their cultural heritage at the New Yam Festival. His assurance sparked excitement among community members who expressed confidence that the long-neglected road networks in the area will soon be transformed.

The Abiriba-Ohafia-Arochukwu road, a major economic corridor linking communities in Abia North, has long been in deplorable condition, frustrating transportation and commerce. Its rehabilitation is expected to boost economic activities, enhance connectivity, and bring relief to residents and travelers.

Governor Otti reiterated that his administration remains focused on delivering projects that directly impact the lives of the people, stressing that infrastructure development is key to restoring the dignity of Abia citizens.
