Governor Alex Otti Confirms Ongoing Reconstruction of Governor’s Office, Explains Delayed Priority

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially confirmed the ongoing reconstruction and upgrading of the Governor’s Office and other key facilities within the Government House, Umuahia. The announcement was made during a Sabbath service at the Unity Chapel, Government House, where the governor also explained why the renovations were delayed since the start of his administration.

Governor Otti clarified that although the Government House is significant, it was not among the initial priorities due to the administration’s focus on projects that have direct and immediate impact on the people of Abia.

“Government is about the people. And if the people do not give their support, then leadership will not be able to work,” Otti stated, emphasizing that projects like salary payments, healthcare, road rehabilitation, and free basic education were placed above the Governor’s Office on the administration’s scale of preference.

He noted that essential infrastructures, such as the Michael Okpara Auditorium, are currently undergoing reconstruction and are expected to be completed before the end of June. In addition, the office of the Secretary to the State Government is at its furnishing stage, and work is ongoing at the Government House Clinic.

Governor Otti also revealed that the makeshift Governor’s Lodge and the Unity Chapel would be reconstructed to modern standards. He praised the support and prayers from the church community and urged the public to remain hopeful, take care of their families, and maintain strong faith in God.

“We are almost two years into this journey—halfway into our first term—and we are determined to accelerate development across the state,” he assured.

The service featured a sermon titled “Facing the Giant”, delivered by Elder Ezekwem Odigbo of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Drawing from 1 Samuel 17:32-37, he highlighted David’s faith in God as the reason behind his victory over Goliath and encouraged believers to trust in divine help when facing life’s challenges.

The worship service included special prayers for Governor Otti, his family, and the state. It was attended by prominent dignitaries including the Governor’s wife, Her Excellency Mrs. Priscilla Otti, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Okezie Nmeregini, Chief of Staff Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Ph.D, several commissioners, and other top government officials. The governor later proceeded to inspect ongoing construction projects within the Government House premises.
