Governor Alex Otti Assures Abia’s Disabled Community of Improved Welfare and Inclusive Governance

In a strong reaffirmation of his commitment to inclusive leadership, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has assured the disability community in the state of his administration’s continued dedication to improving their welfare and ensuring equal access to opportunities.

The Governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Disability Matters, Mr. David Anyaele, made this known during a strategic engagement meeting held on Tuesday in Aba with representatives of various disability clusters.

The high-level meeting provided a platform for dialogue between the state government and persons with disabilities (PWDs), focusing on key areas such as inclusive education, accessible infrastructure, employment opportunities, and healthcare.

Mr. Anyaele, a renowned disability rights advocate, emphasized that the Otti-led administration remains committed to building an Abia where no citizen is left behind, regardless of physical condition or social status.

“Governor Otti understands the importance of inclusive governance. This administration is committed to removing barriers that hinder persons with disabilities from accessing opportunities in education, employment, healthcare, and public service,” Anyaele stated.

He also highlighted some of the tangible steps the administration has taken so far, including:

  • The passage and implementation of disability-friendly laws
  • The upcoming establishment of a Disability Rights Commission
  • Ongoing recruitment of qualified persons with disabilities into key sectors of government

Mr. Anyaele noted that these initiatives are aimed at promoting equal opportunity, upholding the dignity of every citizen, and creating a socially inclusive state.

Representatives of the disability community who attended the engagement applauded the state government for its responsiveness and inclusive policies. They praised the appointment of Mr. Anyaele and urged the administration to sustain momentum by investing in:

  • Barrier-free infrastructure
  • Inclusive education systems
  • Healthcare support tailored to special needs
  • Economic empowerment programs designed specifically for PWDs

The participants also called for increased public awareness campaigns to combat stigma and discrimination against persons with disabilities.

With this engagement, the Otti administration reinforces its agenda for people-oriented governance and a socially just Abia State, where every citizen — regardless of ability — has a voice and place in development.
