Governor Alex Otti Assures Abia workers of December,13th Month Salaries Payment Before 20th

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare by announcing plans to pay both December salaries and the 13th-month bonus to state workers before December 20, 2024. This declaration was made during a crucial meeting with leaders of workers’ unions, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), as part of his continued efforts to prioritize the welfare of the state’s workforce.

Governor Otti assured workers that, just as he did last year, the 13th-month salary would be paid without fail. He explained that the early payment of December salaries would enable workers to prepare adequately for the Christmas season.

“I am getting ready. Before the 20th, we will pay December salaries so that you can be able to shop for Christmas,” Governor Otti said during the meeting.

In response, the NLC Chairman in Abia State, Ogbonnaya Okoro, expressed gratitude on behalf of workers, commending the governor’s dedication to addressing their needs.

“I want to give you kudos, sir. You must succeed, and we are rightly behind you. We will go the extra mile to support your administration. We appreciate what you have done and appeal that you attend to other outstanding issues,” Okoro said.

During the same meeting, Governor Otti criticized the state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for setting up a shadow government in Abia, calling the move “treasonous” and “baseless.” He warned that such actions demonstrate a lack of understanding of Nigeria’s political structure and vowed to pursue legal action against the opposition party.

Describing the initiative as an affront to his administration and the rule of law, Governor Otti said, “This act is not only baseless but also an indication of ignorance about Nigeria’s political structure. My administration will not tolerate such behavior, and we will act within the law to address this.”

Labour leaders in attendance lauded the governor’s proactive measures to ensure the timely payment of salaries and bonuses, emphasizing their willingness to collaborate with his administration for the betterment of the state.

The timely payment of salaries and bonuses reflects Governor Otti’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of Abia State workers and his broader vision for inclusive governance and development.
